On the evening of July 23, 2018 a fire ravaged the small town of Mati east of Athens. More than 90 people lost their lives. A year later the city is in waiting and despair. Only nature has regained its rights, the inhabitants have nothing more than ruins and a landscape abandoned.

At the age of 72, Takis, a retired man living in Athens, returns for the first time to Mati, where the fire of last summer killed 96 people and burned more than 10,000 hectares. His house, totally destroyed by a fire, was built by his wife's father 55 years ago. Blocked by the government's long process of assistance, he can not rebuild his house like most people in Mati.

Dimitris, 28, repairs his main house where his family lived before last summer's fire that killed 96 people and burned more than 10,000 hectares. His house, totally destroyed by a fire, would cause the death of his family. Dimitris saved his family by taking them to the beach to take refuge in the water. Unfortunately one of his dogs perished in the fire. Blocked by the government's long process of assistance, he can not rebuild his house and his family now lives with a friend.

Sofia and Konstantinos are retired. Their house was built in 1982 and is their main residence. Last summer's fire, which killed 96 people and burned more than 10,000 hectares, also ravaged the first and second floors of their homes, and they are now living in the basement. Blocked by the long process of government assistance, they can not rebuild their homes.
