Irina holds her youngest son, Raul, in her arms. Irina Pintak is 36 years old, she came with her two sons, her husband Rauf and her father-in-law. The latter are originally from Azerbaijan. They had already fled Azerbaijan because of the war, they hope to go to Spain. The town of Przemysl in Poland is the gateway for many Ukrainians fleeing the Russian offensive. Since the beginning of the fighting, the UN estimates that more than one million Ukrainians have left their country. A former shopping centre in Przemysl has been converted into a temporary reception centre for the refugees, who stay for a few hours or nights and then spread out in the many buses and cars that take them to the European countries that are mobilising to help them. Most of the volunteers, Polish or international, have come spontaneously. The reception conditions are spartan but the refugees only stay for a short time.
