Refugees from Ukraine in the town of Przemysl on the Polish-Ukrainian border.
Alexis (right), a Belarusian volunteer living in France, came to help with volunteers from around the world when he saw the influx of Ukrainian refugees at the Polish border. Alexis lived for many years in Poland as a refugee after having to leave Belarus because of the repression of President Lukashenko's government. The town of Przemysl in Poland is the gateway for many Ukrainians fleeing the Russian offensive. Since the beginning of the fighting, the UN estimates that more than one million Ukrainians have left their country. A former shopping centre in Przemysl has been converted into a temporary reception centre for the refugees, who stay for a few hours or nights and then spread out in the many buses and cars that take them to the European countries that are mobilising to help them. Most of the volunteers, Polish or international, have come spontaneously. The reception conditions are spartan but the refugees only stay for a short time.
